Texas Jail Project’s House Concert is almost here! Thurs. Nov. 13th
Oct 3rd, 2014 | Category: Lead ArticleTickets can be ordered by clicking on this hot link: Eventbrite and using a credit card. Or you can buy tickets at the door. Why should you buy a ticket?
1. The uniquely talented Gina Chavez will perform her lovely and passionate songs. Sarah Eckhardt, Democratic nominee for county judge, will speak briefly on needed reforms of county jails and the importance of TJP’s work.
2. Texas Jail Project is doing singular and urgently needed work, helping people all over this state who a suffer in poor conditions of confinement. Last year, more than 67,000 individuals viewed texasjailproject.org for information and support. Next week, I along with a coalition of women of color will speak to the Jail Commission about the hundreds of pregnant women and mentally ill people, including veterans, who are often being held for months pretrial without necessary medical treatment, sufficient food, or mental health meds.
3. It’s only our third fundraiser in seven years. We get a lot done with 1.5 staff members and a few volunteers.
4. Our national funding only underwrites a specific project on pretrial detention, and we really need funds for our other campaigns and operations.
(If anybody is unable to attend, she/he can and donate a ticket for $50 at our PayPal button and we could use it for someone unable to pay!)
